This lithograph was issued near the conclusion of the Civil War, and shows a Revolutionary War scene with General Gage and a group of young boys. Apparently these children were arrested by British soldiers, and Gage was so taken aback with the boys ideals and courage that he remarked "The very children here draw in a love of liberty with the air they breathe. You may go my brave boys, and be assured if my (troops) trouble you again they shall be punished." Much like the Revolutionary War, the Civil War was considered a battle of principles, and scenes like this reinforced the public's need to stand up for the ideals upon which the country was founded. Lithographed by Max Rosenthal.
