The discoveries of Captain Cook are the subject of this scarce, Italian map of the Americas. The map first appeared in 1788 and this very uncommon state, updated to 1825, significantly improves the mapping of the interior of North America. Cook's three voyages are traced in the Pacific, where both islands of New Zealand and Hawaii are prominently shown. The location and date of Cook's demise is marked on I. Owhyea. The large title cartouche is set in a lush landscape with the allegorical female representation of America surrounded by native animals with a cornucopia of gold coins at her feet.
