In 1697, at the end of the Nine Years' War, the Treaty of Ryswick was signed between the French and the Grand Alliance of England, Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and the United Provinces. The peace conference took place in the Huis ter Nieuwburg in Ryswick (now Rijswijk). This bird's-eye view depicts the magnificent palace and gardens of Nieuwburg, with intricate details of the statues and fountains.
