This map of the eastern hemisphere (with the exception of northern Europe and northern Asia) depicts John Davis' voyage from England, to Brazil and Southeast Asia. Davis was an English explorer who is noted for his discovery of the Falkland Islands and his search for a Northwest Passage at the end of the sixteenth century. The map is adorned with a delightful title cartouche featuring an elephant leading a ceremonial procession. Published in van der Aa's compilation of early voyages of exploration.
