This elaborate title page accompanied the Latin text edition of de Laet's important atlas of the Americas. The title sits on a columnar structure and is surrounded by sea monsters and flanked by portraits of the famous Dutch admirals Pieter Heyn and Hendrick Lonck. Below are vignettes of Matanca (Bay of Matanzas, Cuba) and Olinda, as well as a scene of natives making offerings to a royal figure of the Foederatae Belgii Provinciae (Dutch Federated Provinces), with a banner stating Venisti Tandem ("you have finally come"). Engraved by Cornelis Claessen Dusent.

A nice impression and attractive color with a few archival paper repairs in blank margins, with one repair that just enters 1/8" into image at right.
