A. A Map or Chart of ye Westn. Coast of Africa, from Cape Blanco, to Tanit. Taken from Labat circa 1748 (5.8 x 9.7"). A nice map showing soundings and place names along the coast of modern-day Mauritania, from Cap Blanc to Tanit. Condition: Watermarked paper with some light toning, a few tiny spots, and minor offsetting. (B+)
B. Mauritania, Numidia, et Africa Propria, by Sidney Hall, dated 1826 (9.8 x 7.4"). Map detailing the northern coast of Africa from just east of the Strait of Gibraltar to modern-day Tunisia, showing topography, rivers, and numerous ancient place names along the coast. Condition: Some light toning and offsetting. (B)
C. Upper Nubia and Abyssinia, by Keith Johnston, circa 1861 (16.7 x 12.8"). This highly detailed map is centered around the Ethiopian Empire, or Abyssinia. The map is filled with place names and shows political divisions, topography in hachure, rivers, and roads. The map includes some printed color along the boundary lines. Condition: A bottom centerfold separation entering just past border has been closed with archival tape. (B+)
D. Empire des Abissins comme il est Presentement, by Alain Manesson Mallet, from Description de l'Univers, circa 1683 (4.0 x 5.6"). A miniature map of the Ethiopian Empire (Abyssinia) in eastern Africa, locating mountain ranges, rivers, and regions. The map is adorned with a large, decorative title cartouche. French text on verso describing the sources of the Nile. Reference: Pastoureau, Manesson-Mallet 1 A [354]. Condition: Minor show-through of text on verso and some printer's ink residue. (A)
