This map of northwestern Africa and the Straits of Gibraltar depicts the travels of Francis Brooks while enslaved by Mully Ishmael, Emperor of Morocco. Brooks, an Englishman, wrote an account of his 10-year enslavement by the tyrannical Emperor, as well as his escape along with two other Englishmen. The map is adorned with a decorative title cartouche featuring the Emperor flanked by his guards, with a large crowd and ships in the background. Published in van der Aa's compilation of early voyages of exploration.
