Handsome map of the river Nile from the Mediterranean down to Aswan and including the Red Sea. Caravan routes are shown, as well as the domains of desert tribes. There is a fascinating note of a Crocodilopolis near Akmin. The city is now known as Faiyum, but apparently the ancient inhabitants paid particular reverence to the local crocodiles. The decorative cartouche features a waterfall and crocodile.
