This lot of three Civil War engravings represent a beautiful and vivid look at the life of the average solider during the conflict. From 1862 to 1864, Forbes followed the Army of the Potomac as staff artist for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. He was more interested in the day-to-day existence of the Union soldiers than the great battles or important generals. This moving work characterizes his important drawings from the war in a series of fine etchings. Included in this lot are: Charge and Check, Through the Enemy's Country, and A Night Battle.
