This interesting paleontologic view, drawn by Karl Haushofer and published by K.A. von Zittel, was one of over 70 large, striking "blackboard" charts of geology and fossils produced by the pair from 1879-1891. This is number 8 in the series, thus an early issuance. The title above the image translates as "Ideal landscape from the Steinkohle time", which is a geological time equivalent to much of the Carboniferous or "coal age", some 300 million years ago. The coal age was a time of widespread swampy, shallow water conditions and dense forests of primitive, now-flowering plants, before the time of dinasaurs. Joined on four sheets with rollers present and intact.

Condition: C+
There are numerous small chips and abrasions primarily along the top roller and along center where the sheets are joined, with a 4.5" crack at top center. Rollers are in good condition with only the bottom left corner of the map unattached.
