This attractive 12" desk globe with lithographic gores sits unattached within a wooden support base. The primary feature of the globe is the aeronautical distances shown in red between various cities across the world. The dense network of routes indicates how quickly air travel evolved over a very short period of time. In addition to the aeronautical routes, the globe shows a number of borders in blue and green not recognized by the United States government, such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania being a part of the Soviet Union. These additional borders coupled with the fact that Israel is not shown (1948) makes this globe circa 1940, right in the thick of WWII. Total height is 14".
