A nice lot consisting of two copper engraved views detailing the Kerguelen Islands as surveyed by Captain Cook in 1777. Engraved by Robert Bernard after John Webber, one of the official artists who accompanied Cook on his third voyage. Size varies slightly.
A. Vue du Havre de Noel, Terre de Kerguelen. This view depicts Christmas Harbor with Cook's ships at anchor, natives on shore and in small boats, a flock of penguins, and rocky cliffs in the background. Condition: Watermarked paper with light toning and some minor soiling mostly in blank margins.
B. Trois Vues de la Pointe Arquee, Terre de Kerguelen. The second view shows three landfall approach views of the island. Condition: Issued folding on watermarked paper with some light soiling.
