This lovely engraving depicts Bowling Green, a small park in Lower Manhattan along Broadway. The park was built in 1733 adjacent to the site of the original Dutch fort of New Amsterdam, and is the oldest public park in New York City. It originally included a bowling green, and today it is still surrounded by its original 18th century fence. This view was drawn by Alexander Jackson Davis and engraved by Vistus Balch for the New York Mirror.
