Superb thematic map with bright hand coloring to illustrate eighteen geological formations. Filled with fascinating details such as the location of the quarries where the building stones for Parliament were taken, fossil beds, and mineral and gem deposits. Drawn by S.P. Woodward and engraved by J & C Walker. This is the 5th edition of the map updated by Sir Roderick Murchison, originally produced by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in 1842.

Very attractive hand coloring with some minor soil confined to the blank margins. A portion of the blank margins have been folded back onto the verso, so the margins are about 1/2" wider than they appear in the image.
