Hitchcock's landmark geological map of the United State and southern Canada was published between 1853 and 1856 with no changes. The eastern portion of the map is a compilation of Lyell’s map with the western geology from M. Boue’s Geological Map of the World, modified by the author’s generalizations. The map provides early detail of the geological formations with an explanatory key to the colors indicating fifteen different geological groups. Lithographed by W.O. Sharps Lith., Boston.
