This fascinating Revolutionary War map depicts Charleston under British control after the siege of 1780. British ships fill the waterways and the location of their camp is indicated. The Siege of Charleston was a major victory for the British, who had shifted their attention to the southern colonies in the final stretch of the war. Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered approximately 5,000 American troops after six weeks of battle-- the largest number of American forces to surrender throughout the entire war. Engraved by Cooper.
