This handsome miniature map depicts the island of Sao Tome, off the coast of Gabon. The island is a large volcano and lies just north of the equator, although this map depicts the equator running directly through the center of the island. The map is adorned with a strapwork cartouche, sailing ship, and sea monster. French text on verso.
