This Civil War period geography is "Illustrated by Forty Maps, and Numerous Engravings" including fine maps of Texas, United States, California, and the Southwest. Pictorial cover showing a teacher instructing her class in geography with a map and large globe. Condition: Text and maps are clean and bright with a little soiling on covers. (A)
B. Mitchell's School Atlas, by S.A. Mitchell, published 1867 (9.5 x 12"). This example of Mitchell's famous school atlas includes 31 of 34 maps (most with blank versos) along with tables and statistics. Includes nice maps of the United States and California. The missing maps are Texas, Western States and Michigan/Wisconsin. Hardbound with pictorial paper over boards. Published by E.H. Butler & Co. Condition: Disbound and should be considered a collection of loose maps, which are generally very good, but a few with light scattered foxing. Previous owner's name in pencil on inside blank end paper. (B+)
