This is a nice Ptolemaic map of southern Europe extending west to the Rhine River, north past the Danube River and east to include a portion of the Balkans. Typical of the period, the map shows only the rivers and major cities with rope-like mountain ranges. A large cartouche with Latin text describing the region fills the Mediterranean. In the Tyrrhenian Sea is a sea nymph riding a large dolphin. Latin text and woodcut illustration on verso.

An excellent impression with attractive color, light toning along the centerfold, and two small worm holes along the centerfold just above the sea monster.
