A. Sketch of Public Surveys in New Mexico to Accompany Report of Surveyor General, by General Land Office, from Sen. Ex. Doc. No. 1 34th Cong. 1st Sess., dated 1855, black & white (10.9 x 7.4"). This map is only the fourth issued by the General Land Office. Wheat calls this a sketch but notes that it "is a beginning on the rough job of surveying the western states and territories." Roughly centered on Santa Fe, it depicts rivers, some topography, and numerous Indian tribes. Ref: Wheat (TMW) #854. Condition: Light toning along the fold, but otherwise very good. (B+)
B. Utah and New Mexico, by Morse & Gaston, from Diamond Atlas, circa 1856, hand color (6.1 x 5.1"). This small map is nearly identical to Colton's important map of the territories which are in their large configurations. Fillmore City and Santa Fe are the respective territorial capitals, and proposed transcontinental railroads run through both. Condition: (A)
