This is an unusual variation of John Bachmann's classic lithograph of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn entitled Bird's Eye View of New-York & Brooklyn. The wonderful scene depicts bustling activity in the harbor featuring numerours steamers and sail boats. Castle Garden is prominently shown just off of Battery Park. In the bottom blank margin is the title "New-York" which was skillfully done in ink by hand in elaborate 19th century style block lettering. This example does not have the neat line surrounding the image and the associated text below as is typically seen in Bachmann prints.

References: cf. Reps #2657.

Condition: B

Printed on heavy paper with archival repairs to three tears in the image ranging in size from 1 to 3" and a few small abrasions. A small edge tear at right extends 0.5" into the image. The original printed color has been refreshed with modern hand color. Minor soiling in the blank margins.
