This important yet gruesome piece of history depicts the Nazi crimes that occurred in Poland during World War II. The geographical details on this large-scale map are limited to the location of rivers and towns. However, only towns that were the site of atrocities during Germany's occupation of Poland (1939-45) are shown, with the town markers graphically depicting what type of atrocity took place. A legend at bottom identifies the town markers, which are defined in Polish, French, English, German and Russian. These markers include sites of extermination camps, concentration camps, mass executions, mass graves, labor camps, and the widespread destruction of homes. The major extermination camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Belzec, Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor, and Treblinka are prominently depicted. Created by Jan Laskowski and published by Panstwowe Przedsiebiorstwo Wydawnictw Kartograficznych (National company cartographic publications).

Originally issued folding, this example has been mounted on linen with wooden rollers attached at top and bottom and a ribbon tie closure. The linen serves to repair several long fold separations, a few short tears, and some minor chips at the edges of the sheet at right and left. There is light toning at top and bottom, a few spots of soiling, and some minor creases. A small piece of paper with the title handwritten on it has been taped to the bottom roller.
