This twelve-inch desk globe is raised on a heavy cast iron round base decorated in a floral and Greek key pattern. The base holds up a 5" cast iron tube which supports the half meridian ring and globe. The globe has twelve hand colored gores and stands 21" tall. The globe is dated circa 1890 as it depicts an undivided Dakota Territory (achieved statehood in late 1889) and the the former "Public Lands" is now shown as the panhandle of Oklahoma Territory (part of the Oklahoma Organic Act of 1890). States and territories in the United States are delineated in full color. The oceans are filled with the tracks of famous explorations including those of Cook, Vancouver, La Perouse, and more. Floating in the Pacific is the circular title cartouche and a large analemma. Engraved by Rae Smith and sold by Nims & Knight of Troy, New York. An attractive globe with an unusual stand.
