This Japanese woodblock map from the Edo period depicts the land and sea routes around Japan. The map displays a disproportionately large representation of western Japan with a diminishing eastern Japan, which is more commonly found in early Edo period maps. It is decorated by three compass roses, numerous sailing ships, and flanked by panels of text at top and bottom. Self-folding into green paper wrappers. Blank verso with the exception of a few manuscript notations. A fascinating work of Japanese craftsmanship.

References: Kazumasa, p. 19.

Condition: B

Moderate soiling, several damp stains along the folds, and a few splits at fold intersections resulting in minor loss of image. Paper wrappers are scuffed and soiled.

Estimate: $700 - $900

Sold for: $600
