Uncommon working blue-back chart showing the coastal Pacific Northwest from Forrester Island and Dixon Entrance south to San Francisco Bay, showing the Queen Charlotte archipelago in British Columbia, Vancouver Island with excellent coastal detail across Washington, Oregon and northern California. The map has a number of insets, as follows: Brooks Bay and Quatsino Sound, Esperanza Inlet & Kyuqout Sound, Nootka Sound, Clayoquot Sound with Refuge Cove, Barclay Sound, Puget Sound, Royal Bay, San Juan, Port Angells, New Dungeness, Fuca Strait, Nee-ah Harbor, Port Orford, Crescent City, Trinidad Bay, Shelter Cove and Mendocino. The map is copper engraved and has hand colored lighthouses along the coastal areas, with numerous compasses, soundings and other sailing information. The map further refined its information by using a '?' for markers of doubtful existence, while 'P.D.' signified that the position was doubtful. Published by Imray & Son in London, who stamped it 1884 near the title in blue ink. This firm exists today as Imray, Laurie, Norie & Wilson Ltd, still specializing in nautical charts.

Condition: B
Fairly good condition for a working chart with a nice dark impression, a few light stains, and areas of irregular toning at the top right and left corners. There are some tears, two at the bottom entering the map 10" and 3.5", and a long tear in the lower right corner that is closed with paste and tape on verso.
