This map was published on the front cover of the double-sheet June 15th, 1878 edition of the Stockton Daily Independent. It covers the region from Sacramento south to Bakersfield and identifies railroads, canals and oil springs in addition to naming and locating numerous cities, towns and villages. This complete 8-page issue also includes numerous articles promoting the commercial evolution of the area from gold mining to commercial trade. Includes a small "Outline Map of Yo Semite Valley" with an article on the "Big Trees" and potential for tourism. Full sheets with text measures 18.2 x 24.1".
