This is a rare, early view of the burgeoning city of San Francisco. It shows sailing vessels in the bay at left, docks, and numerous buildings in the surrounding area. This lettersheet view (stationery) was published by Cooke & LeCount and lithographed in San Francisco by Peirce & Pollard. This is the top half of the sheet only (missing the blank bottom half) with a short note on verso indicating that it was being sent to the recipient to be put in a scrap book.

There is a thin, 1" tear at top center only visible when held to light that is closed on verso with archival material. Very minor soiling primarily in the right and bottom blank margin with an owner's stamp in the top left corner of the image. There are light manuscript notations on verso that do not show through.
