A. Iowa, by J.H. Colton & Co., dated 1855 (15.9 x 12.8"). This detailed county map includes railroads, roads, post offices, and topographical information. County configuration is up to date as of 1854, with new counties such as Adair and Monona (Manona) present. Includes a decorative border. Condition: There are a couple unobtrusive spots. In the blank margins there are light damp stains, a short edge tear at bottom, and some toning. (A)
B. Colton's Iowa, by G.W. and C.B. Colton, dated 1862 (24.4 x 17.0"). This striking map of Iowa shows the state with a county configuration accurate to 1865, with the expansion of Crawford County shown. Towns and cities, roads, canals, and railroads operational, in progress, and proposed are identified. A note at bottom right explains the Public Lands Survey System. The map features a decorative border. Condition: There are short centerfold separations at top and bottom, light toning along the centerfold, a hint of offsetting, and minor scattered foxing. Toning appears on the edges of the sheet. (B+)
