This superb bird's-eye view depicts Cadiz and the surrounding bay. Cadiz became an important port during the Age of Exploration, serving as the departure point for Christopher Columbus on his second and fourth voyages, as well as the home for the Spanish treasure fleet for a period of time. As a result, the city became a target for Barbary corsairs and British fleets, with a number of attacks during the 16th and 17th centuries. This view shows the walled city surrounded by water and ships engaged in battle. A numbered key below the view identifies 21 points of interest. Engraved by Francesco Ambrosi and published by Giovanni Remondini in Bassano Del Grappa.
