This handsome matching set of maps depicts the historical region of Upper Saxony. The maps are filled with details of political divisions, towns and cities, rivers, forest, and mountains. details parts of northern Germany and Poland. Size varies slightly.
A. Partie Septentrionale du Cercle de Haute Saxe qui Contient le Duche de Pomeranie et le Marquisat de Brandebourg, by Didier Robert de Vaugondy, dated 1751. This map stretches from Rostock on the coast of the Baltic to the historical Pomerelia region in northern Poland, down south to the Polish town of Sulechow near the Oder River. An inset, Supplement pour le Marquisat de Brandebourg ou se Trouve la Vieille Marche et le Quartier de Pregnitz, appears at bottom right and covers the Elbe where Lower Saxony and Brandenburg meet. Condition: A crisp impression and original outline color on watermarked paper with minor soiling and some extraneous creasing at bottom left. There are some short edge tears and faint stains in the blank margins. (B+)
B. Partie Meridionale du Cercle de Haute Saxe ou sont le Duche de Saxe, le Marquisat de Misnie, le Landgraviat de Thuringe, et Autres Etats et Principautes, by Gilles Robert de Vaugondy, dated 1756. This map details a portion of Germany and the Czech Republic. It centers on Leipzig and spans from Magdeburg to just past Berlin in the north and from Henneberg to Prague in the south. There is a decorative title cartouche at top left and another cartouche housing four distance scales at bottom left. Condition: A nice impression with original outline color on watermarked paper. There is a hint of offsetting, a stain that touches the neatline at top, and short edge tears and soiling confined to the blank margins, especially at top. (A)
