A. Mexique ou Nouvelle Espagne, from Beschreibung des Gantzen Welt Kreises. This miniature copper-engraved map features a large title cartouche and vignettes of a raging sea battle in the Pacific and an Indian battle in the region labeled Louisiane. The map covers the southern part of the present United States from the Baja (I. Californie) through Florida and extends south through Central America. This is the second state with a German title above the map, "Mexica oder Neu Spannien," published in Johann David Zunner's edition of Mallet's Description de l'Univers…. Condition: Light toning with faint offsetting from an opposing page of text. (B+)
B. Mexique, from Description de l'Univers. The second sheet depicts Mexico City along the edge of Lake Texcoco. Spanish soldiers and natives are depicted in the foreground. A drape-style title cartouche hangs above the city. Condition: A dark impression with minor printer's ink residue mostly in the margins. A chip at top right, far from the image, has been replaced with old paper. (A)
