This large, copper-engraved map of the continent gives good detail and interesting notations concerning the explorations of the interior. Two mythical lakes appear: Parima L. in Guayana and L. de los Xareyes in central South America. The mythical Lake Parime began to disappear on maps at the beginning of the 18th century, so this map represents a very late appearance. The large, elaborate title cartouche is flanked by natives and a pot of gold, with erupting volcanoes in the background.
