This finely engraved map by Girolamo Porro depicts Zakynthos Island, the third largest of the Ionian Islands. It is decorated with a sailing ship, sea monsters, and a unique compass rose. Set in a full sheet of Italian text (8.4 x 11.9"). Porcacchi's L'Isole piu Famose del Mondo was published in seven editions beginning in 1572, and was one of the last island atlases published, following the works of Buondelmonti, Sonetti and Bordone.
