This is a very handsome map of Africa with the typical features of the early eighteenth century. The source of the Nile is shown quite well for the period. However, remnants of the Ptolemaic twin lakes that were considered the Nile source are present, now no longer attached to the Nile with the Zebee River flowing into them. The title cartouche is particularly nice with pyramids, a Moorish soldier, a river god, a native with elephant tusks, a lion, a serpent, an elephant and a dragon.

References: Norwich #76; Shirley (BL Atlases) T.SEN-2a #28.

Condition: B+

A nice impression and color on watermarked paper with very light toning, a few faint stains, and several old manuscript notations on the map.

Estimate: $400 - $500

Sold for: $350
