In 1741, during the War of Jenkins' Ear, British Admiral Vernon captured Guantanamo Bay and renamed it Cumberland Harbour. The bay is the largest harbor on the south side of the island and is surrounded by steep, forested hills. The detailed chart shows soundings, shoals, forts, and several salinas or salt pans. The map was drawn by Giuseppe Pazzi and was copied from Thomas Jefferys' map of 1762.
