This strongly engraved map is centered on Cahors with north oriented to the left. It is filled with small villages and details of the watershed. The department of Lot, located in the southwestern portion of France, is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution. It was created in 1790 principally from the province of Languedoc. In the lower left is a large cartouche with a monkey, books and a female allegorical figure holding dividers against a large globe of the world. The lovely title cartouche is at upper right center and in the upper right corner floats the royal arms on a tapestry. Dutch text on verso published between 1642-1664.
