Unusual map covering the region of northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan, Assam and Bangladesh. At center is the imaginary Chiamaeus Lacus with four huge rivers flowing south into Bangladesh and Burma. This map was created to illustrate the travels of Benedictus Goes, also known as Bento de Gois, a Portuguese missionary who is credited as the first European to travel overland from India to China. Decorated with a pictorial title cartouche of a council in a large tent. This map was published in van der Aa's compilation of early voyages of exploration.
