This handsome facsimile of Johannes and Gerard Van Keulen's Zee-Fakkel was published by Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Ltd. and limited to 500 copies. The Zee-Fakkel was originally published in 6 parts from 1716-53 and was one of the most attractive, informative sea atlases of all time. This facsimile edition was reproduced in the same size and on paper of similar tint, texture and thickness as the original. The facsimile edition was published in 3 volumes; this lot includes only the third volume, covering the Atlantic navigation (including the coasts of South America and Africa) and the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia. The volume contains 103 double-page charts, two of which are in full color. In addition, five prints of ships and one of maritime flags, all in full color, have also been included in this volume. Hardbound in imitation leather stamped with gold ornaments copied from surviving examples of the original edition.

Contents are clean, bright and tight, almost as new. The covers and spine show light wear with a few small abrasions. The spine is beginning to detach at top and bottom, however the volume is still structurally sound.
