These views depict Quebec during the French and Indian War. The first depicts the Battle of Quebec, a pivotal battle between the British and French that began on September 13, 1759. The British succeeded in capturing Quebec City and eventually driving the French out of most of eastern North America. The second engraving shows a British ship in the St. Lawrence River with a view of Quebec in the background. The view is based on an original engraving by Hervey Smyth, circa 1760. The engraver's initials "F.P." appear at bottom right.
