Goos engraved this small double hemisphere world map in 1617 for the Arnhem edition of the Magini-Ptolemy atlas. It is similar to Porro's derivative of the 1587 world map by Rumold Mercator and set within a similar strapwork background. Goos' map has been considerably improved and updated according to Hondius and Blaeu particularly in South America, New Guinea, and Australis Incognita. The area to the north of the peninsular California has been slightly revised, leaving it blank, but suggesting the possibility of a landmass. The map is finely engraved with a stippled sea, text in Latin below and blank verso. Engraver's signature 'Abraham Goos, Caelavit' in Magallanica.
