This first edition of the book, by Janus Hoppe, is one of the most important German publications on the discovery of gold in California. The 152 pages of text consist of a geographical examination of the region as well as data from Dr. Georg Erman's climate reports. The volume contains two maps. The first, entitled Karte von Californien (8.7 x 14.3") covers the Pacific Coast from the mouth of the Columbia River to Baja California with basic detail along the coast. The second map, Hauptzüge der Geographischen Verbreitung des Goldes... (18.0 x 10.3"), depicts the various gold regions across the world. Published in Berlin. Rebound in faux alligator with title label on front cover.
References: Wheat (Gold) #96.
Condition: B+
The maps are very good with light toning and offsetting and a few faint spots. Text is clean and bright. New binding is excellent with slightly bumped edges.
