This uncommon and handsome neo-classical map of southern Italy highlights Naples and the three major islands of the Tyrrhenian Sea. There are a number of place names and good topographical detail. A scroll-like inset showing Malta appears at left. The large pictorial cartouche features Vesuvius in full eruption with the picturesque ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum in the foreground.
