This chart shows the phases of the planets as viewed from Earth, including Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Also shows are the aspects of Saturn's rings, as well as the markings on the planets Venus, Mars, and Jupiter based on the observations of Christoph Scheiner, Galileo Galilei, Christiaan Huygens, Giovanni Domenico Cassini, Robert Hooke, Jacques-Philippe Maraldi and Francesco Bianchini. Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr was a professor of mathematics at the Aegidien Gymnasium in Nuremberg. He collaborated with Homann on most of Homann's celestial maps.
