This simple and elegant map of the Americas appears on a sheet of Latin text (11.3 x 19.3") from the introduction to Blaeu's Atlas Maior. The western coast of North America is depicted in an odd configuration dominated by a large Baja California. Several rivers run through the interior of South America. A vast southern continent almost connected to South America is shown in the Mar del Zur. The map is crossed by banners measuring the earth's diameter. Beneath the map is a diagram of longitudinal lines. The verso features a stripped-down globe, a diagram of latitudinal lines, and a table on the climate at various coordinates.
