This bird's-eye plan of the city of Dijon is from the rare French edition of Munster's Cosmography published by Belleforest. Although Munster is credited in the title of the atlas, only 49 of the 160 maps and views were copied directly from Munster's work. The city is located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, and this view graphically illustrates the surrounding vineyards. The town is well protected within high walls and enclosed in a moat. Two lettered keys at right list nearly 30 important cites including the famous church Notre Dame. Drawn by the engineer and architect, Edouard Bredin. French text on verso.
