This map covers all of Britain and Ireland, and extends north to include the Faroe Islands and Shetland Islands. It is densely filled with place names and depicts rivers, forests and topography. The map is further embellished with a title cartouche featuring a coastal battle scene and flanked by the goddess Athena and a river god. Emanuel Bowen was one of the leading English mapmakers of the 18th century. Unusually, he obtained royal appointments as engraver to both the French and English Royal Courts.
