This set of four maps were published in Black's General Atlas circa 1861. The map of North America shows the confederate state of Arizona and the large territories of Nebraska and Dakotah. Also included is an inset of British Columbia illustrating the Frazer River gold fields. The map of the eastern United States shows West Virginia still a part of Virginia. Canada. West Sheet has an inset of the area surrounding Montreal, and Canada... East Sheet has an inset of Newfoundland. The map of the eastern United States and both maps of Canada show excellent detail of cities, roads, and railways. North America and the two maps of Canada were drawn and engraved by J. Bartholomew. The map of the eastern United States was engraved by Sidney Hall.

Light toning along the edges of the sheet and some minor color offsetting. The eastern United States map has a few small spots in Missouri and the North America map has a short centerfold separation at left.
