This elegant architectural frontispiece appeared in Coronelli's two-volume Isolario as part of his Atlante Veneto. The title appears on a billowing piece of parchment, held aloft by Mercury, the Roman mythological figure representing travel and trade. The argonautic emblem below - a ship on a terrestrial globe with the motto “Plus Ultra” - belongs to the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti, the first geographical society, which was founded by Coronelli in 1680. The two cherubs at top typically hold a large coat of arms - which in this example appears to have been masked.

A nice impression with the watermark of three crescent moons, a few faint spots of foxing, and marginal soiling.
