This highly detailed chart depicts the northern coastline of Central America from Punta Mono in Nicaragua to the San Blas Islands in Panama, as well as the majority of the southern coastline of Panama. The coastlines are filled with soundings, islands, and notations on the type of sea bottom that is found in each area. A large inset depicts the Lake of Nicaragua with a small portion of the Caribbean and Pacific coastlines of Nicaragua. This map was engraved by J. & C. Walker, published by the Hydrographic Office of the British Admiralty, and sold by J.D. Potter. The initial survey for the map was conducted in 1837 under the command of E. Barnett. The map was first created in 1844, with major corrections made in 1864 and magnetic variation from 1884.
