This stunning French map of South America spans four joined sheets. It shows the continent in enormous detail including rivers, villages and towns, mountains, political boundaries, and very fine coastal detail. A large inset on the lower right sheet continues Argentina on the same scale to include Tierra del Fuego, the Straits of Magellan, and the Falkland Islands. The upper right sheet has the title in decorative lettering with fancy flourishes. There is a legend on the bottom left sheet that identifies colonial holds with hand color including Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, English, and French possessions. A rarely encountered set of matching elephant folio maps from this scarce atlas.

Condition: B+

A fine impression with original outline color. There are a few small stains along the joint at bottom and several minor spots in the Pacific Ocean. The two western sheets are slightly toned in comparison with the eastern sheets. In the blank margins there are some short edge tears and small chips that do not enter into the map image. Very nice condition for this size map.
